Absolutely love this place. they're proof that you don't need to have a ridiculous number of taps to be a great beer bar. As long as you have 15-20 good ones, that's more than enough. This place brings in a lot of hard to find brews and doesn't waste any lines on bud, colors, etc. The food is spectacular. Last time in, I had the Denver Boy. A lot of places are experimenting with peanut butter on burgers and their take is one of the best ones I've ever had. They mix may tag blue cheese with it which I wouldn't think would be a good combination but I was surprised to say the least. The burger was incredible and the fries were enjoyable as well. It's definitely worth straying away from Iowa City on occasion to check out this gem. Every restaurant owned by the people that run Red's is a hit and they each have their own unique touch. For red's, I'd say it's their import selection and a staff that goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.

The service is generally extremely slow, and it is also generally very loud, sometimes to the point where you have to shout to the person sitting right next to be heard. The food itself is generally decent, although it can be hit or miss... Steaks overdone or not rested properly resulting in a plate full of juice and a dry/tough piece of meat. And half the time the potatoes au gratin are crunchy. The worst part of Reds is the fact that you cannot get substitutions on some of the entree sides... The sirloin comes with 'creamed greens' which are in my wife and I's opinion, DISGUSTING, and when we asked if we could get anything else instead of the creamed greens, we were told NO, that it would not be possible because it is a 'garnish'. So when we asked to have the aforementioned slop left off of our plate and ordered an additional side a'la carte, the server was rude, and couldn't guarantee the green goo would be left off the plate, but she'd try.

Great place with excellent service & food. This is a 'staple' of NL & shows no signs of slower down. I highly recommend the flatbreads. Buffalo Chicken & Spicy Tai Chicken are top notch. Black & Tan Onion are awesome!
(5)Rachel L.
Holy macaroni, I sure do love this place! The food is the perfect kind of fried food that you crave when enjoying a pint of beer. But the beer menu? ...fugetaboutit. It's the perfect balance between small local craft breweries and large national chain breweries. I knew I was going to love this place when I first visited and they had Toppling Goliath on tap! And I can't write a review about Reds Alehouse without talking about that outdoor patio - talk about the perfect space to enjoy your beer on a hot summer day! There are several large locust trees (my favorite... yes I have a favorite kind of tree) which provide perfect filtered shade, on top of all the umbrellas. Plus there's a humongous fire pit, water fountain, heat lamps, and a huge art sculpture made from old bike parts. I mean, honestly, this my place.

So good! Whether indoor or out on the patio, the atmosphere is comfortable, and classy but cozy. The bartenders and waitstaff were outstanding. Our bartender introduced herself as well as the others working bar, answered our questions thoroughly and suggested several specialty beers. We didn't feel rushed to order, but weren't neglected. All staff were very knowledgable on both the beer selection and menu ingredients. The food is DEVINE. I love that there are healthy options available. My steak was cooked perfectly, (rare), in fact, better than most steakhouses. I substituted for brussel sprouts with a specialty sauce, which were also mind-blowing. Mind-blowing brussel sprouts, you heard me. Our server was accessible but didn't hover, and didn't mind us lingering late after we ate. Love this place, and will go back for another date night.
(5)Kate T.
Wow! Super yummy! This was our first time at Reds, and now I know why they are always busy. The crazy goat appetizer was a great start. The burgers were a bit red for medium, but very tasty. Hubby preferred the prime rib hamburger, and I preferred the one with the egg, though we both agreed we would order either of them again. I had some kind of fruity cosmo that had me slurring my words half way through, which was delighted, and shows that they don't skimp in the bar. The creme brulee was ahhhh - mazing! Essentially we loved it all. Make sure to call ahead for a seat, unless we are going that night! ;-) Hubby and I have found a new favorite, for sure!!!!!
(5)Sara C.
The patio was a great place to unwind. Happy hour ends at 6 so come early. Tried the Spicy Thai chicken flatbread, would totally recommend it! I can't handle too spicy but this was perfect
(5)Gary D.
Great beer selection and good food selection. Service is always great too. Good place to meet friends.
(5)Chris R.
This isn't my first rodeo here, but it was one of the tastiest! I got the Patriot burger (again) and it was AWESOME! My daughter got the Wake and Bake burger and she said hers was great as well. Staff was excellent and will absolutely be back!
(5)Sachin S.
Great place. Went around the place thrice just to find parking! But totally worth it! Happy hour deals are awesome! Bartenders are great! Two-hearted beer is just awesome and also the freshly squeezed! Totally worth the money!
(5)Todd M.
I'm not crazy about the food, but the beer list is ALWAYS good. Atmosphere is nice. Good for families and a nice separate bar area as well, with a few flat screens for watching sports. Reasonably priced, not over crowded.
(3)Thomas D.
Dined at Reds with my son, arrived Saturday 7:30 we were seated immediately was pleasantly surprised. I had the wake and bacon burger it was cooked to perfection. The beer menu was incredible, vast assortment of all varieties. The only downside was the bathroom. Anyplace with the word Ale in its name should be better equipped it handle what comes with massive beer consumption.
(5)Tammy J.
Five Star spot all day long!! From the moment you walk I. The front door, to the server (yeah Keaton!) and the support team who ensures all is well. This place is fantastic. Oh and then there are the two-fer beer's at happy hour. Oh and the food!! Must try the Bacon and Cheese Fries with Jalepeno's! The rest is yet to be discovered. Will be back next the we are in the area.
(5)Freyja A.
Thank you Brandon for taking time to attend to this matter. I will come back and enjoy my next experience with you all.
(5)Jeff W.
Nice little spot, decor is classy and stylish. Bar service is great, plenty of hands on deck even on a busy Friday afternoon. Craft brews on tap, often that you can't find elsewhere locally, and a full bar and wine selection. Didn't have any food, sat at the bar and had some great conversation with fellow patrons, a couple of pints and a shot of some decent whiskey. Customers were mostly professional, it was an older crowd on this visit but it was a full restaurant so they've got a decent reputation locally. Give it a shot if you're in the NL area.
(4)Kristin H.
Nothing better than a tasty craft beer outside on Red's patio on a summer evening. Beautiful garden, plenty of seating, and great classic rock soundtrack in the background. Happy Hour Two for Ones include many fancy cocktails, draft craft beers, and wine Service and food is consistently excellent as well. Great pit stop between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
(5)Mike M.
Made it back last night. The fry problem has been corrected.
(5)Royce E.
The staff was terrific. Food was great. And two for ones! The only downfall was that my girlfriend got pooped in the eye by a bird while we were sitting outside.
(5)Seth Z.
Beer selection is excellent and happy hour is Awesome. I go there quite a bit and the service is always good. The food is decent too, but I mostly go there for their no crap on tap policy.
(4)Mark G.
My favorite place in the 380 area.....The food is amazing, I have tried something new every time and have not been disappointed. Great food all around, they do have the best wings in the state hands down, come in a few flavors, I usually get hot and it is amazing. If you go, make sure you try a few different items, they make everything on their menu very good, can't always say that about restaurants but it holds true here. Red's is a spot where they are really stepping up to be one of the greats, I would look for this place to expand in the near future, nothing like it in the area.
(4)Scott S.
I thought I reviewed this in the past, but I can't find it. [Edit: I did find it. The main review is listed as "Red's Alehouse" with many more reviews. This listing is a duplicate.] This place makes the best burgers in a very wide radius -- the only place I know where if you ask for medium rare you get it. I recommend their Black and Bleu burger, which has cajun spice, blue cheese and bacon. They have great bears on tap, with a bent towards the Belgian spectrum. Not a problem, but it can be difficult to find a decent pilsner or pale ale on tap at times. Great happy hour which is usually very crowded, the not-too expensive beers served 2 for 1. Great place.
(5)Zheming Y.
Nice spot for beer! The appetizers (crazy goat and bruschetta) were great. I had a Pork belly and it was delicious. The service was friendly but the parking is limited.
(5)Leslie S.
I LOVE Red's Alehouse. My boyfriend and I always get the balsamic chicken flatbread (my favorite), and then we split a different appetizer every time we go. We've had the fries, the seared tuna and the wings so far. ALL so good. I feel like I can't go wrong with food here. Great selection of beer/alcohol. Great atmosphere. It can get very busy and finding parking can get annoying when it's very busy, but I guess that's to be expected from a popular place.
(5)Sidot S.
Great food, an ever changing menu, and an excellent selection of beer. This is a North Liberty gem! Great service every time I have been there, and a good happy hour with 2 for 1 drinks. They always have a great beer selection with craft beers from all over; some for just a limited time. I would recommend Red's Alehouse to anyone who finds themselves in the area!
(5)Paige P.
Meh.....It was OK. The location is excellent. The onion rings were sadly piss poor.
(2)Matt U.
If I had to design a restaurant it would look alot like Red's! The beer is the focal point here where there are routinely 10-15 beers on tap that you probably haven't seen before, and the bottle list is impressive! The burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, flatbreads and pastas here are all top notch, leaving very little to be desired. The black/tan onion rings along side an alehouse burger or a buffalo chicken flatbread with a nice dark beer makes Matt a happy boy! Happy hour from 3-6 yields 2 for 1 libations = excellence. The true gem of Red's as you'll hear from friends, is the patio. A sprawling area with a central fire pit that can accomodate groups from 2 to 20. It takes a solid night to amazing when you're able to just relax w/ dinner a drinks out here. Come early because you, like those before, will want to linger. The wait truly adds to the mystique of Red's as the patio combined w/ the food, beer and service are so nice that you'll tolerate waiting an hour just to recreate it every time you go. Truly the spot in the area. Be ready to wait when you go or call ahead and get your name on the list. Worth the wait every time!
(5)Abby R.
Love the service all so friendly! Their flatbreads are amazing, great outdoor seating. Make sure you save room for their cookie dessert! It's to die for!
(5)Ema N.
This place is popular for their beer and their drinks. Both are awesome. The food isn't great. It could definitely use some help. I suggest skipping the meal and drinking it instead.

Saturday, 7/12/14 was our 2nd attempt to dine outside in their wonderful courtyard complete with firepit but was again rained out. Inside: NOISY; they need carpet- BAD. Our hamburgers were great. Do wish the waitress would have come back to our table to fill completely empty drinks. Had to ask her for silverware after she had brought our food; when we could finally flag her down. Maybe overwhelmed by rain. Will try again (outdoors). Locally owned always gets my business. They a Sunday Brunch that is 5 stars.

Two years ago, our first visit to Reds was very good. Food was delicious & service was good. Unfortunately, service has gone way down in the last 2 years. The next 3 visits, the food was just ok and was quite expensive for what you received, quite small portions. The service has been horrible. Our waitress did not want to be bothered with our table. We had to ask for our beverages to be refilled and extra napkins. She would roll her eyes and huff as if we were bothering her. At one point she disappeared and we had to go find a manager to help us. We will not return. We are amazed at how busy Reds always appears to be. It's as if people are just accepting of bad service and reward the restaurant by returning. I guess it would be fine to go and drink but not to get dinner.
(3)Chris M.
Awesome place with great food and the best happy hour in town!
(4)Trill B.
Nice atmosphere. Wish the good was better but the service is usually good. Sometimes can be too busy and service is bad. Will be back
(3)Donald Y.
I visited Red's Alehouse while over on a weekend trip to the Cedar Rapids area. I really fell in love with the place upon entering. The bar area is modern looking yet it has a homey type feel to it as well. The motto here is "no crap on tap" and they certainly follow that. They had a nice selection of premium microbrews from both in state and out of state breweries, as well as some imports. This is a great place to grab some good brews on tap. My only knock on this place is that the bar area gets quite load, like having to yell just to talk to the person sitting across from you load. I also grabbed a bite to eat and chose the Thai Chicken Flatbread. It was very good and I really liked the peanut sauce they used. If you're ever around the 380 corridor and are looking for some good beers and good food, this is a can't miss place!
(5)Qinyi W.
The hamburgers and flat bread there is good. .But the steaks and pork chops is a little expensive.
(3)Jessica A.
Great food, beer selection, and atmosphere. They also have a really great brunch. They do not take reservations but do however do call-ahead seating. I would recommend taking advantage of the call ahead seating. There is always a wait, even on weeknights due to their awesome happy hour (buy one get one drinks).

When Red's open several year ago, you could count on finding my wife and me there every Wednesday for lunch and every Saturday for dinner. We even hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner there. However, about 18 months ago, they drastically changed their menu. Now I understand food costs and trying to keep a fresh menu, but they did away with multiple items like Apricot BBQ Chicken flatbread and the zinger (buffalo chicken) salad. Now they offer an upper class type menu with higher end items, but we miss the old Red's that we first fell in love with. Don't get me wrong, the food is still good, it just isn't the same.

THE SERVICE here was excellent. It was fast and friendly. Our server was very attentive. Whenever he walked by, he watched us to see if we might be eyeing him or having any requests about our food. When he dropped off the barbecue sauce, he watched the expression on our faces to see if we were satisfied and, noticing our quizzical looks at the sight of the single small sauce cup, asked if we would like more. He patiently answered all of our questions and had a smile on his face the whole time. THE FOOD, however, was lackluster. I was told that this was a fantastic restaurant and that every item on the menu was great. The truth is that the flatbreads were dry and the flatbread itself diminished our enjoyment of the dishes. The sandwich and burger had at our table evoked the same responses -- very "meh". The appetizers were of decent portion sizes and, while nothing special, were nothing to complain about. THE RATING is too generous, but a two-star rating would perhaps be a bit harsh. When I compare Red's to common restaurants such as Islands or Applebee's, I think the food at Red's is less enjoyable. And if a friend were visiting, I would prefer another restaurant over returning to Red's. SUMMARY: Don't listen to the hype about this place. It's pleasant enough, but the food isn't worth going out for. If you want to enjoy yourself and your meal, go somewhere else.

Location/dining space: Red's Alehouse is located in an older part of an otherwise rapidly-expanding North Liberty. The building is well updated inside with several flat-screen TVs and a great outdoor area. Unfortunately, it was raining the day I was there, so I was unable to dine outside. Food: The menu is pretty standard with entrees mainly comprising of flatbreads, burgers/sandwiches, and a few specialty entrees, though a slightly Mediterranean theme can be seen throughout the menu. Most of the selections are fairly unassuming, although a few do tread into more adventurous territory. For example, "the braiser" is a sandwich with pork belly, brussel sprout slaw, cheddar, and bbq sauce. I ordered the Wake & Bacon burger while my guest picked out the Spicy Thai Chicken flatbread. The Burger came well dressed, though its height made it somewhat difficult to eat. The meat itself was also over-cooked though still edible (I had requested it to be cooked to "medium" and it definitely arrived almost "well done"). The flatbread, by contrast, was well-flavored and had a great mix of textures between the crunchy vegetables and creamy sauce. Overall: The food was pretty on par with other moderately-priced "pub" restaurants. It was generally tasty but lost some points on cooking and execution. I would go again for a flatbread, appetizers, and a cold beer over happy hour, but I'll visit a few other places around town first before returning to Red's for a full meal.
(3)KELLIE K.
This is a venue I can see thriving in the area, especially as a destination for the Chicago transplants yearning for a decent pub. The menu is fairly typical of a gastropub (burgers, fries, pastas, flatbreads) with the burgers being a strong contender for a consistent, go-to meal. I've been told the recipe was retained from the old Sluggers menu, and that's a good thing. The fries, however, were sad, lame companions on my plate. They were thick and hearty, yet tasted more like something you'd find in the freezer section of your average grocery store. The flatbreads were served on a nifty cutting board, which was, as they say in Iowa, quite clever. With a sizable local (including one made for Dirty John's!) and small craft brew selection, as well as the standard, expected brews, it's easy to see why Red's was hopping on a Friday night with the trendier 20-30-somethings. For a minute, I almost forgot that I was in Iowa. Only for a minute, though. Drink specials and beer flights top off the reasons to stop in and check it out. I'd definitely stop in again on my next trip back.

I recently visited Reds with my boyfriend and his family. I think overall, the menu and beer selection were great, but the crowded and loud atmosphere sullied the experience for me a bit. The beer selection was certainly something to write home about. There was a wide and interesting range of things on draft to try, some very unique to the region ( which is nice to see as a visitor). The menu was full of a bunch of good looking stuff. I tried the Cajun catfish sandwich, which was pretty good. It was close to over spiced, if you can imagine that, but it was still pretty tasty. The French fries were very 'meh'--they would not make my best French fries list. Next time I'll try another side; I had a bite of my boyfriend's black bean succotash, and it was delish. Everyone else enjoyed their food, including a flatbread, beef tenderloin, and a burger. The service was perfectly friendly and prompt; I think it was the noise level and general overcrowdedness that got on my nerves. That being said, it was a game day, so maybe I should have figured. In my defense, many, many hours had passed since the game had ended--I was ready for a dinner experience where I could hear the conversation at my table. Overall, I hope to return and try other menu items and craft beers, but I probably won't be running back.
(3)Sidney T.
I went for dinner with some people and was underwhelmed. It wasn't bad...just wasn't outstanding and I'd have to say not quite worth the price. I had the Bruiser Burger..ugh. The toppings were nice and the fries I liked but the burger itself felt...old My spouse had the chorizo flatbread and that was very good. I'm hopeful maybe it was just a one time fluke that I got such a bad burger but I'll probably only give them one more chance and only because the flatbread was so good.
(3)Erica H.
I really love the food here. It's simple, but delicious. Very good beer selection. I'm also biased that we can walk here from our house. Here's my only beef. The place is crowded, and the design isn't really conducive to crowds. It's super noisy on the weekends, like can't-hear-the-person-next-to-you noisy. And packed. The wait is often very long, and they don't take reservations (call ahead seating, though). The first time I was here, it was a Thursday evening, and it was lovely. Still a bit crowded, but a nice place for a casual meal with friends. The next time we tried it, it was a Saturday night. We left before the waitress could even take our drink order, it was that loud. I'll be back, over and over, but only on weeknights!

Red's Alehouse Finally made it to Red's Alehouse and discovered what many have known for a long time. Red's is a must stop in the Iowa City/Coralville and now North Liberty area. I would classify Red's as a place that promotes their beer but delivers on their food. Red's menu is dominated by flat bread pizza and sandwiches but its surroundings and service are closer to a fine dining experience. When looking around its clear Red's is the place to be. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Qualities that are harder and harder to find these days. Buffalo chicken and ranch dressing are two things that I don't particularly care for but when I took a bite of my wife's flat bread pizza I wasn't sure I even wanted to try my meal. It was awesome and that's taking into affect I went into it thinking I wouldn't like it. The balance of flavors and heat was perfect. I would order it in a heartbeat. My Daughter had a burger with feta and you can't go wrong with that. My choice for the evening was the The Braiser - pork belly, brussel sprout slaw, aged white cheddar, smoked tomato BBQ. I mean come on, with that combination how can a guy go wrong. The brussel sprout slaw was a pleasant surprise and added a nice crisp freshness to the burger. Red's take on coleslaw was also a pleasant surprise they use purple cabbage and a red wine vinaigrette that may not be for most but I found it a nice change to the common coleslaw. There are times when after a meal you just sit back and think to yourself; that is sitting just right. My trip to Red's did just that. I have devised a new rating system for restaurants that I will unveil with Red's that goes like this. I consider the meal and the experience and compare it to what it cost to what I would be willing to pay for it. Just a word positive numbers may be rare and a 0 is not bad. I came up with this system at the last place I ate in which the entrée was $17 and I would have willing paid $10 for the meal so it earned a -7. Red's earned a +4 on my initial visit. Red's Alehouse 405 N Dubuque St, North Liberty, IA 52317 (319) 626-2100 Price range: (everyday, a night out, a special occasion only) a night out Overall rankings all based 1 to 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: 5 Food: 5 Value: 5 Overall 5

4.5/5 - Great place, friendly servers, great martinis, great food - flat breads, Penne Vodka, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. I only do not like their fries, I wish they'd improve it or make a special fries.
(5)Timothy B.
It goes without saying that the burgers are great at Red's, but don't forget the Wings. An order is big enough for a meal. We were seated within 30 seconds of entering Red's. The staff was extremely pleasant and attentive. Just a great place to enjoy a brew and great food.
(4)Scot N.
GREAT flatbread pizza and an amazing beer selection! It can get REALLY crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, so plan ahead. If you have never been here, the food is always good and a decent prices as well.
(4)Cary B.
My group of 7 was insulted by the hostess whom we overheard making comments about us as we waited for a table. When I looked at her and said, "I heard that" she became loudly defensive and yelled at me. We left and had a wonderful meal elsewhere in North Liberty. They were very busy, but that's still not a good reason to be abusive to paying customers.
(1)Jen N.
This review is only for brunch. I've eaten there for lunch and liked it which is why I'm giving it two stars. Brunch tasted like it had either been served last week or came of a truck frozen. The desserts were tasteless and the quiche... It was just wrong. I'll come back for lunch or dinner, but not brunch. Ever.
(2)Celie J.
Awesome place to find when you're a student. Happy hour from 3-6 is bogo and the food is more than decent. Not into the flatbreads, but the sandwiches and salads, and appetizers are great. Appetizers are huge! Great beers. Great fun.
(4)Nan K.
they changed the menu it seems a few years back flatbread taste frozen the crust was dull.
(3)Jonathan B.
Red's is a well-kept secret around here. I mean it is often difficult to get a table, despite having ample seating, because of it's core of devoted fans but Red's isn't a place enough Iowa City residents know about. This is probably due to the restaurant's North Liberty location - far removed from campus. That said it has great food (burgers, sandwiches, etc), a gorgeous interior and a really nice bar with a happy hour 2-for-1 special to kill for. Red's is the kind of place that corporate Americana restaurants, like TGI Friday's and Chilli's, aspire to be - quality food, friendly atmosphere and totally unique. I don't mean to compare something as good as Red's to something as horrible as those chains other than to say: if you are an Iowa City or Cedar Rapids resident looking to go to one of those places, go to Red's instead.
(5)Levi W.
Red's Alehouse has the best service around -- great place and great people
(5)Brandon F.
Red's is hands down our favorite place to go in North Liberty. They offer a great selection of beer on tap, daily happy hour specials, comfortable atmosphere, and good waitstaff. They have good selection of food, with very good burgers and flatbreads. Red's also has a large outdoor patio area for dining, which is something very few places offer in the area. They obviously have the right recipe for success, as you're likely to see the place full at all times of the day. You may have to wait 30-45 minutes for a table on the weekends, but the wait is worth it. Use the time to take advantage to sample one of the many beers they have on tap at the bar!
(5)Amber P.
Really? Almost 5 stars for this place?! Yuck. We went on a Sunday and experienced the brunch buffet. Most of the foods were out, the omelets were ice cold--as in no warmth whatsoever to the eggs and the prime rib that they were serving looked like rubber. The atmosphere was fine with 80's music playing the entire time. The Bloody Mary "bar" was fine but not much of a bar except that they had about 5 different hot sauces and a tray with olives, pickles and some horseradish in a container. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars was because the beer selection looks pretty decent and might be a nice place to visit to have a beer on the patio when the weather warms up. The waitress was super nice too, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the food was cold and gross.
(2)Elizabeth P.
They have a stellar reputation for a reason. Make the drive to North Liberty for the beautiful atmosphere, mouthwatering food and a delicious, plentiful beer selection.
(5)Vince S.
Great Tenderloin sandwiches! Brother-in-law had the breaded tenderloin, I had the grilled. Wife had a burger. Everyone loved their meal and the service. Our take-home package had "Red's 7/22" written on the top of it. I liked that touch. Nice attention to detail. Great spot!
(5)Matt B.
Red's is by far our favorite place in North Liberty. When we first moved here a year ago, we were going 1-2 time a week. And although we've dropped down to 1-2 visits a month, we are still big fans. Between my wife and I, we've had most of the items on the menu. Big fans of the Melt Away Club, all the flat breads, burgers and chicken sandwiches. Great onion rings too. The real reason to try Red's is the beer selection. Always changing on a daily basis, I can almost always try something new. They do cycle in popular brews from time to time, but don't count on anything in particular being there the next time you visit. 2 for 1 happy hour from 3-6 every day is fantastic - especially in the summer/early fall on the patio. Staff is helpful and attentive, even though they are usually swamped. Drink service is quick - they know what makes the money!

I've been here several dozen times in the past year and have never had a bad experience. Awesome wait staff. Awesome food. And the best beer selection in the area ( in a lot of areas in fact). This is definitely our go-to place when going out for dinner.

Never been disappointed by anything we've eaten at Red's and we eat there a lot! The Reuben is great! One suggestion: they don't take reservations but you can call ahead for seating... and you should!

Red's is the place to go in North Liberty and is worth the trip from Iowa City. I have tried something different every time I have been there and have not been disappointed with my food thus far. The burgers are delicious: I have had the Bacon & Bleu and the Cajun Burger, both were good but I recommend the Bacon & Bleu. I have also tried a few different appetizers and entrees. Most recently I had the blackened Ahi Tuna dinner and it was cooked perfectly. This is also a great place to go for happy hour where they have 2 for 1. The inside is nice and clean, they have and if the weather is nice, they have a lot of outdoor seating. They also have a large beer menu.

If you are out for beer, this is the place to go. If you are looking for good food... eh.. They keep renewing the menu; every time they do they get rid of the things people seem to enjoy. The two things I suggested in my last review are no longer on the menu!!! Double bubble is still nice, but always busy. Parking is still a nightmare, but the staff does have it's own lot down the block so that helps.

Like other reviewers have stated if you are in or around the North Liberty/Cedar Rapids area this is the place you should eat. I read the Yelp reviews and decided Reds was worth the stop. It was a Friday night, but it was packed with cars around the block. Still we managed to get seated right away inside and it was a nicely designed area. Our waitress was great and the other staff was very accommodating as well. We all got burgers which were actually cooked the way we ordered. However my dads burger was cooked medium instead of medium well. Our waitress had a new burger cooked in under five minutes and the manager comped the burger for us without us even asking. I would go out of my way to eat at Red's Alehouse. The food, staff, and building are all fantastic.

Great beer and drink selection and happy hour. Our server was great because she came over to our table to see if we wanted anything else right before happy hour was over. Tried the black bean & garlic hummus for an appetizer and think it's all right. Definitely a lot of black beans and cilantro. I would try something else instead next time. For entrees, I had the Pesto Chicken sandwich and really liked it! You have some choices for a side, but skip the "Red's Slaw" ...it is red cabbage, red onion and vinegar. I love pickled cabbage so I was surprised I didn't like this at all. Too much vinegar I think. BF had the Cajun burger medium-rare and said it was very good, spicy and it came out great at the temp he ordered. My friend had the vodka penne. It looked yummy to me! She said it tasted really good although the prosciutto was overcooked. Wedge salad and steak sandwich also got the thumbs up, although the "homemade demi-glace" on the steak sandwich looked and tasted like beef gravy...perhaps using the Knorr powder mix qualifies as homemade? Ick! The interior was very nice and had dim lighting, but the acoustics were terrible. We were practically yelling at each other because we couldn't hear each other speaking. Would definitely come back again, the food had great flavor and the service was friendly.

I'm a fan of their black and tan onion rings. Yummy!!! The Brueschetta was really good the first time we had it but the the second time it was soggy. My favorite is the Grilled Portabella Sandwich. It's a magical combination of the mushroom, goat cheese and salad greens. The atmosphere is nice and they keep everything pretty clean.

Good beer, good food. The only way it could be better is a handjob to go with my pint.

Stopped here after work today around 4 pm and it was happy hour 2 for 1 beers!! And they have a vast selection so that's a great start. I had the blackened ahi tuna for an appetizer it was very well prepared and flavorful followed by a huge club sandwich which was so big i could barely fit it in my mouth. The Service was very prompt and the prices were reasonable. I think this would be a great place to go in the evening and sit outside as they have tons of outdoor tables.

Soooooo good. Everything was so good. We also managed to hit it up at happy hour for 2-for-1 drinks. It made a big family dinner very fun which is nothing short of a miracle. They managed to seat our large group quickly and service was great, keeping those drinks coming...which were also very, very yummy. The only downside is that the acoustics are horrible, so it is hard to hear in the side room. This makes people get louder. Then it is even harder to hear. Then people get louder, etc. So by the end of dinner (and maybe due to the happy hour) every table in the side room was pretty much yelling at each other. It was fun.

4 stars is really for the beer selection. They usually have some really funky beers on tap, though they have been slaves to Bell's lately. Seemed like a year or 2 ago they had more exotic European stuff, bummer that they don't have as much now. Anyways, the food here is okay but not awesome. If it wasn't for the promise of a delicious beer I hadn't tried before, I would never come here.

Red's has come to be one of my favorite places to go in the Iowa City area. The food is certainly not the best I've ever tasted, but it is good, creative bar food and reasonably priced. They have a 2-for-1 happy hour from 3:00-6:00 every day and their beer list is extraordinary. With 2 pints in front of you, how can you not be satisfied? Their patio is quite large and perfect on a hot summer day. We love the chips and queso, the bruschetta and the flatbreads (which can be split between two or eaten alone). The cocktail menu is heavy on fruity drinks but really, if you're at Red's you should be drinking the beer. Overall it is a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy an afternoon. I'd recommend Red's to anyone.

I find myself going to Red's at least once every two weeks, if not more regularly. It's worth it to try the constantly rotating beers on tap. But hubby and I would be there anyhow because the food is good quality and great value for the price. The motto, "No crap on tap" will disappoint people who want a macrobrew, but will delight a beer aficionado. This is called an alehouse, after all. Service and ambiance are good

We went again for lunch during work. This time I got a burger and fri platter. Our server checked on us ALOT more (not so much that it was over bearing), and the food was reasonably priced. And the portions were the right size this time, I finished my lunch, but didn't feel stuffed, comfortably full. A little more than I would wanna pay, but I'm a cheapskate, so that doesn't say much for me.

Great flatbread. I've tried a few types of it, and my particular favorite is the Balsamic Chicken Flatbread; I'm anxious to try more, though. Gourmet and regular fries are great, as well.

I have been to red's twice. The first time there was a very knowledgeable bar tender who let us sample a few beers. This was great. We settled on a german beer that was awesome. 2nd time was packed, but we still got in fast and the service was still very good. they were well organized for dealing with so many people

Excellent selection of beers, tasty food but a rather traditional menu. Can certainly be recommended.

Great burgers! Just when I was missing Sluggers I found Red's The fries are hit and miss but the Red's slaw is really good. The flat bread is great and the fish and chips are very crispy. The buffet looks good but haven't tried it.

Every time I have been there the food has been great! A great addition to North Liberty.

What a great find! Most of their food is prepared in house, is wonderfully tasty, and served in outlandish portions. Unless you are a big eater, think about splitting an appetizer and main course, rather than ordering entire dishes for yourself. There is a reasonable wine selection but the tap beer selection is huge. For my taste, they had too many pale ales, too many wheat beers, and then a couple of very, very dark, chocolate, tobacco beers a bit too close to Guiness for my taste.. A couple of nice amber ales would have balanced it a bit more I think. Every evening they have happy hour with 2 for1 16oz tap beers, So you can share the beer as well as the entrée. I have three areas: the bar and some dining tables in one room, dining only in another room, and an outdoor patio for dining. As you might expect, the bar area is a lot louder with me after work and look up crowd, but the whole restaurant it's very busy so you may have to arrive early or else wait a while for a table, especially on the weekends. Oh yes, the prices are quite moderate; not cheap, but very far from expensive.

I visited this restaurant last night. This is my 4th visit. I met up with some friends their and we had a great time. The seating area allows enough space to comfortably move around. It was a bit chilly being placed next to a door that was constantly opened but I managed to get through the evening. Many folks sat through their meals in coats. I had a steak sandwich this time. The sandwhich was great and it included mushrooms with a premium style cheese. I was encouraged to order the cheese on the side because of it's taste and texture. I liked it. The fries were a bit over-cooked but I didn't mind because of the size of the sandwich. The price for the sandwich was around $10 which is kind of high if you think about it. I left the place full and content. A bit cold but satisfied. **Note** If you are handicapped and require handicapped parking, the staff pays no attention to the parking lot. Chances are, someone who is not handicapped will be parked in your spots.

Definitely surprised about the atmosphere. Modern styling with booths and tables, divided into multiple sections. Flatbreads and entrees were great. Over 20 beers on tap! It's an alehouse.

Great Sunday brunch for under $13. Service & food were great for a buffet, would go again.
(5)Adam B.
The atmosphere is fun, and the flatbreads are fantastic. The wait staff is a little inexperienced.

I've only been here once, but will go back. I had a well prepared buger that wasn't mashed to hell and was cooked to the temp I asked for. Presentation was fine and the service was attentive. The place was overrun by families with screaming children, but considering it is in North Liberty, that is to be expected. There is very little parking - so they are victims of their success.
